Oct. 25, 2007 – About 1 million Bumbo Baby Sitter foam seats have been recalled because, if the seat is placed on a table, counter, chair or other elevated surface, the child can arch his or her back, flip out of the seat and fall to the floor. Bumbo has received 28 reports of children falling out of the seat, including three who had skull fractures from falling from tables. “Manufactured by Bumbo South Africa Material” is printed on the bottom. The seat back says “WARNING” – Never use on a raised surface.” and “Designed for floor level use only.” along with other safety warnings.Consumers should stop using the Bumbo seat on elevated surfaces and call the company at 877-932-8626 for new warning labels to be placed on the seat and new instructions.
Go Diego Go Boat Toys
Oct. 25, 2007 – About 38,000 Fisher Price Go DIego Go Animal Rescue Boat toys are recalled because the surface paints contain lead. The boat is orange and yellow and a Diego figurine sits in the driver seat. Product number K3413 and date code between 137-7HF and 223-7HF are marked on the toys. Call Fisher Price at 888-299-0579 for return and replacement instructions.
Family Dollar Halloween Pails
Oct. 25, 2007 – About 142,000 Halloween pails sold at Family Dollaer stores are recalled because the paint contains lead. Only purple pails with a witch silhouette and green moon are included. Return the pail to a Family Dollar store for a refund.
Dollar Tree Children’s Jewelry
Oct. 25, 2007 – Nearly 200,000 Beary Cute, Expressions and Sassy & Chic children’s jewelry sets sold at dollar discount stores for $1 are recalled because they contain lead. Bracelets, earrings and necklaces are included – click the headline link for photos. Return the jewelry to the store where purchased for a refund.
We Glow Metal Jewelry
Oct. 25, 2007 – About 110,000 Shrek 3 and Spiderman flashing rings are recalled because they contain lead. The rings have 920422 printed on the back of the packaging. They were sold at dollar discount stores for $1. Return the rings to the store where purchased for a refund.
Jo-Ann Garden Toys
Oct. 25, 2007 – An earlier recall of toy garden tools sold at Jo-Ann stores has been expanded to include about 97,000 Robbie Ducky leaf rake, hoe, broom and spade. The paint on these products contains lead. Return the garden toys to Jo-Ann stores for a refund.
Game Pieces from Cars Backpacks
Oct. 23, 2007 – More than 100,000 magnetic game pieces sold with Cars-themed backpacks are recalled because the magnets can come loose and pose an aspiration hazard, or could be swallowed and cause intestinal damage. The 12-inch backpacks were sold at Target stores. Call 877-848-4070 for return and replacement instructions.
Payless Girls Boots
Oct. 18, 2007 – About 90,000 pairs of girls boots sold at Payless ShoeSource are recalled because the guitar-shaped zipper pulls on the boots can lock together while a child is walking, causing the child to trip and fall. The black, jeweled boots were sold in girls sizes 10.5 to 4.5. The boots say Hannah Montana on the outsole. Return the boots to a Payless store for a refund or exchange.
Gymboree Toy Swords
Oct. 18, 2007 – About 6,000 Gymboree toy pirate swords are recalled because the swords can break and expose a sharp point, posing a risk of lacerations. Call 877-449-6932 or return the sword to a Gymboree store for a refund.
Albert’s Skull Pails
Oct. 17, 2007 – About 55,000 skull pails filled with Halloween candy are recalled because surface paints on the pails contain lead. Stop using the toy and return it to the store where purchased for a refund.
Guidecraft Puppet Theaters
Oct. 17, 2007 – About 5,400 Guidecraft tabletop puppet theaters are recalled because the paints contain lead. The theaters have red front and side panels and a chalkboard sign on top. Stop using the puppet theaters and call Guidecraft at 888-824-1308 for replacement information.
Dunkin Donuts Glow Sticks
Oct. 17, 2007 – About a million pink and orange glow sticks given away with purchase at Dunkin Donuts are recalled because the labels don’t warn consumers that the cap and lanyard can detach, posing a choking hazard. The lanyard also poses a strangulation risk. Return the glow sticks to Dunkin Donuts for a free donut.
Winnie the Pooh Play Sets
Oct. 11, 2007 – About 49,000 Disney Winnie the Pooh 23-piece play sets are recalled because surface paints contain lead. These play sets, which include a doll and toy stroller, play pen and other accessories, were sold through JC Penney stores, website and catalog. Return the toys to a JC Penney store for refund.
Bendable Dinosaur Toys
Oct. 11, 2007 – About 10,000 bendable dinosaur toys are recalled due to a risk of lead exposure. The toys are 3 inches long and come in brown, green or orange/green colors. They were sold in boxes of 36, but children may have received them as prizes at school, church or birthday parties. Return the toy to the place of purchase for a replacement.
Cracker Barrel Travel Art Sets
Oct. 11, 2007 – Nearly 8,000 travel art sets sold at Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores are recalled because the paint on the zipper pull contains lead. Return the art sets to Cracker Barrel or call 888-296-2721 for refund information.
Kidnastics Balance Beams
Oct. 11, 2007 – About 2,400 Kidnastics foam balance beams are recalled because the surface paint contains lead.The foam beams have a blue vinyl cover with a yellow Kidnastics logo. Call FlagHouse at 800-793-7900 for replacement, refund or credit information.
Starbucks Plastic Cups
Oct. 9, 2007 – About 250,000 Starbucks plastic kids cups are recalled because, if dropped, the plastic face on the cup can shatter and expose sharp edges or pieces that pose a laceration or choking risk. Oct. 4, 2007 – About 10,000 wooden toys sold at KB Toy stores are recalled because the surface paints contain lead, which is toxic if ingested. Target Toy Rattles
Oct. 2, 2007 – About 82,000 plush boys rattles from Target are recalled because they can break open and spill out beads, which pose a choking hazard. The rattles are shaped like a baseball, football or basketball and were sold for about $1. Return the rattle to Target for a refund.
Mini Zooper Strollers
Sept. 28, 2007 – About 21,000 Mini Zooper toy strollers are recalled because a child’s finger can be caught in the metal clip or plastic side hinge, cutting the finger or severing the fingertip. Call Pottery Barn Kids at 888-367-0144 for a repair kit.
Kolcraft Play Yards
Sept. 27, 2007 – About 425,000 Kolcraft Play Yards are recalled after an infant boy died when he was strangled on the changing table restraint strap. The strap forms a loop beneath the changing table, which poses a strangulation hazard to a child in the play yard. Twelve models are included, including the Contours 3-in-1 play yard with cradle attachment. There have been 45 reports of infants rolling to the side of the cradle attachment and becoming trapped, which poses a risk of suffocation. RC2 Knight Toys
Sept. 26, 2007 – About 800 Knights of the Sword toys are recalled because the surface paints contain excessive amounts of lead, which is toxic if ingested. Call RC2 at 866-725-4407 for a refund.
Simplicity Cribs
Sept. 21, 2007 – About 1 million cribs sold under the Simplicity and Graco brand names are recalled because the drop-side can detach from the crib, potentially allowing a child to slip into a gap, posing an entrapment and suffocation risk. Two infants have died as a result of the drop-side detaching. Seven other children became trapped in a gap. Both the hardware and the crib design play into this recall. Older hardware styles may allow the side to detach, and the crib design itself leads many parents to install the drop-side upside down, which can weaken newer hardware styles as well.
